I wouldn't necessarily agree that you overreacted. This seems to be a move borne of political and military expediency. On the political front, pressure from the U.S. notionally made Ankara rethink the invasion. On the military front, they probably recognized the futility of mountain warfare in the middle of winter. As long as parliament of Turkey's authorization for military activities in northern Iraq remains in effect, it is more than likely we will see a repeat of this affair.
